PRAYERS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

Becoming comfortable with prayer takes practice. And yet—if we want to grow in our faith, it’s important that we’re able to have honest conversations with our relational God. The following are prayers were written based off of scripture (New Century Version) and provide adaptive wording to make it personal.

Prayers

Prayers for SELF...

Ephesians 4:13,14 Father, help me to become a mature person. Help me to become more like Christ and try to imitate his perfectness. Help me not to be easily swayed by everything that comes my way - not to be filled, but to stay true to you. In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 4: 30, 32 Father, help me to never make your Holy Spirit sad. I know I do when I shout angrily and say things that hurt others. I know you want me to stay away from evil. Help me instead to be kind and loving to others and to forgive as God forgives. Thank you Father! In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 5:10 Father, help me learn what pleases you. That means that I have to be in your Word to read and learn of you. Help me not to just gain knowledge but for me to put that knowledge into practice. Help me to take advantage of opportunities to learn more about you. Help it to not be out of guilt or obligation, but out of love for you! In Jesus name. Amen. Galatians 5:22 Father, I pray that your Spirit will be at work in my life and will produce the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. In Jesus name. Amen. James 1:14-15 and I Corinthians 10:13 Loving God, you know I am struggling right now with sin and that the temptation is so strong! Help me to remember that temptation comes from Satan and that he is the one encouraging me to sin. I know these desires will lead to sin and spiritual death and I don’t want that. Help me to know right now that you have given me choice and have created a way for me to escape from this temptation. Help me to trust you in this and to look for that way out! Help me to take it and for me to stay away from sin! I can only do this with your help! In Jesus name. Amen. Romans 8:26-28 Father in Heaven, thank you for hearing this prayer. Father, sometimes I just don’t know how to pray - what to say to express my thoughts, my fears, my hopes. Thank you that when this happens that your Spirit speaks to you on my behalf. Thank you that the Spirit begs you with deep feelings when there aren’t words to explain my heart. Thank you that you see my heart and that you work things out for what is best for me in the long run! Thank you for this! In Jesus name. Amen. I Corinthians 15:58 Heavenly Father, help us all to stand strong in you! Don’t let anything move us away from you and your church. Help us to daily commit ourselves to the work that will teach and influence others for you. Help us to never feel like our work is useless but to know that we are blessed by following after you. In Jesus name. Amen. Hebrews 10: 22-25 Father, help me to come close to you out of faith and with a pure heart. Thank you for giving me a clear conscience because you’ve washed me with pure water. Help me to always remember and keep the good confession that I made. Help me to hold on to the hope of Heaven and trust that what you’ve promised you will keep. Help me to think of others and help others through good deeds. Help me to meet with other believers on a regular basis for encouragement. I love you God! Thank you for hearing my prayer! In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayers for COURAGE...

Acts 4: 29 Father, help me - your servant, to speak your words without fear! In Jesus name. Amen. Philippians 1: 20,21 Heavenly Father, help me not to disappoint or fail Christ in anything. Give me the courage to show Christ in my life. Help me to do this when facing life or death. Help me to remember that the importance of living is to show Christ. Help me to remember that if I do this, I will receive a reward. In Jesus name. Amen. Matthew 9:37,38 Heavenly Father, this world needs you. This includes my neighborhood, my family, my co-workers, and my friends. Help me to look at people as souls that you love and wish to save. Father, you own the harvest. Help me to work in your vineyard. Help me to financially send others, but to never forget it is my job as well. In Jesus name. Amen. Matthew 28:18-20 Father, help me to make followers. Help me to baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Help me to teach them to obey everything you have taught. Help me to remember you are always with me. In Jesus name. Amen. Matthew 10:32 and Romans 1:16 Our Father in Heaven, you alone are worthy of our praise. Father, I believe in you! Help me to always be willing to stand in front of others and say I believe in you. Help me not to be ashamed of the gospel of Christ but to always be willing to share it. I know it is the power that will save everyone who believes! Thank you for Jesus. In His name. Amen. Jeremiah 20:9 Heavenly Father, help me to have courage like Jeremiah. If I’m faced with persecution of any kind or fear of speaking about you, help me to say likeJeremiah that if I don’t speak and tell others of you that I will have a burning fire inside of me that is so strong that I can’t hold it in. Oh, how our world would change if all Christians could feel this way. Help us not to hide your word, but to share it with our world!
II Timothy 1:7-8 Father, when I am scared to speak about you give me courage. Help me not to have a timid spirit, but to realize that you have given me a spirit of power and love and self-control. Help me not to be ashamed to tell people about your Son. In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayers for SPEECH...

Titus 2:3, 8 Father, help me speak the truth in love. Help me to live so that if others speak against me that people around me will know it is not true. Help my life to be lived where others can’t say bad things about me. Help me also, Father, to not speak out against others. In Jesus name. Amen. Matthew 12:34-37 Father God, I know that I can’t say aloud things without them first being in my heart. Help me to say good things because good things are in my heart and to keep bad things out of my heart so I won’t say bad things. Help me to remember that I am responsible for every word I speak - even those said in haste or anger. Help me remember my words will be used to judge the kind of person I am. Help me to control my tongue! In Jesus name. Amen.
James 3: 8-12 Father in Heaven, I know that it will never be possible for me to tame my tongue completely. That doesn’t mean that you haven’t commanded me to try! Help me not to be hypocritical by talking about you and how wonderful you are and then turning around and using my words for evil and hurt. Help me to always remember that I belong to you and help my words to reflect that. In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayers for CHURCH...

Acts 2: 44-47 Father, thank you for believers everywhere. Thank you that they are busy caring and loving for one another. Thank you that your church is willing to share with others in their time of need. Thank you for allowing us to meet together to share life with each other. Help us to continue to do this and to praise you for our blessings. Help us to be more like the church in Acts that really lived life together. Help that to bring glory to you! In Jesus name. Psalms 133:1 Father, it is good and pleasant for your church to live together in peace! Help us to put aside selfishness and pride, which destroy unity. In Jesus name. Amen.
I Corinthians 1:10; 12:27 Father, I pray that your church everywhere will be united and not split into groups. Help us to agree with one another and keep in mind that our purpose is the same - to get to Heaven and influence others on that journey. Thank you that in the church you have given us all different roles to play in the church. Help us to view the part we are given in the right way and not look enviously at others who receive more recognition or look at others and think that we are better or that what we do is more important. Help us to always have love as we strive for unity. In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayers for OTHERS...

Ephesians 6:7 Father, help (insert name) to do their work with enthusiasm. Help them to work like they are serving God. In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 3:18-20 Father, I pray that (insert name) will understand the greatness of your love - how wide and how long and how deep and how high that love is. I pray (insert name) will know that love. I know God that you can do more than I can ask or imagine. Please do with (insert name) all you can to convince them of your love. Help me to show in my life the difference your love makes. Glory and praise to you God! In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 3: 16, 17 I ask our Father in his great glory to give you the power to be strong inwardly through his Spirit. I pray that Christ will live in your heart by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. In Jesus name. Amen. Philippians 1:9-11 This is my prayer for (insert name). I pray that your love will grow more and more; that you will have knowledge and understanding with your love; that you will see the difference between good and bad and that you will choose the good; that you will be pure and without wrong for the coming of Christ; that you will be filled with the good things produced in your life by Christ and you will bring glory and praise to our God. In Jesus name. Amen. James 5:13-18 Father God, thank you for creating prayer for us to unburden our hearts to you. You’ve told us when we have troubles that we should pray and that prayer can make the sick well. Please help us to believe as we pray. Help us to remember that Elijah prayed in faith and it didn’t rain for three years. Help my faith to be strong like his faith. Father, I pray now for (insert name) for them to be well. You know their needs. Heal them if it is in your will! In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayers for FINANCES...

I Timothy 6: 6-10, 17-18 Father we live in a world where people all around us want more and more of everything. Help me to be satisfied with what I have. Help me to realize how blessed I am to have food and clothing. Help me to never fall in love with things or allow things to trap me into a love of money. Help me not to develop arrogance and think I’m better than others because of physical blessings you’ve given me. Let me put my trust in you, not in things I have. Help me to use what you’ve blessed me with to do good for others, not to selfishly hoard what I have. Give me a generous and sharing spirit. In Jesus name. Amen. Proverbs 30: 7-9 Father, I ask this of you. Don’t make me rich or poor, but give me what I need and what I can handle and be pleasing to you. I know if I have too much, I might reject you and think I earned this all. If I have too little, I might not trust you to care for me. I could even resort to stealing. Please only bless me with material possessions to the point that I can still acknowledge that they come from you and still be willing to share them with others. In Jesus name. Amen.

Relationship with God...

Galatians 4:6,7 Father, thank you for making me your child. Thank you that your Spirit lives in me and sees me not as a slave of sin, but as a child of yours. Thank you for all the blessings you have promised and that you are giving to me because I’m your child. In Jesus name. Amen. Galatians 3: 26, II Corinthians 5:17, Romans 6:1-7 Thank you Father that I’ve been baptized into Christ - that you have made me a new creature. Help me to remember that I’ve been raised to walk a new and different life. Help me as I live this new life not to be ruled by sin! In Jesus name. Amen.
II Peter 2: 9-10 Holy God, I don’t understand why you love me the way you do, but I know you have made me a chosen child, a part of a royal priesthood, a possession of yours. You have made me share the wonderful acts of love. Once I was lost - not belonging to you, but I’m now one of your family. You’ve extended your mercy to me. I thank you for this Father. Help me to share this with others. In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 2:4,5, 10 Thank you God for your great mercy! Thank you for saving me by your grace! Help me to always see what a great gift this is. Help me to bring glory to you by doing the things that you’ve planned for me to do. In Jesus name. Amen.
I John 1: 7 - 2: 2 Heavenly Father, thank you for being Light and allowing us to live in your light. Thank you for letting us share in your fellowship. Father, we know that if we sin that we have a helper in you. We know that Jesus died in our place to take away our sins and for everyone’s sins. Help us to continue to confess our sins to you and thank you for forgiving us of those sins. We trust you God to do what is right and to cleanse us as we try to live in you! Thank you Father! In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayers for CHILDREN...

Psalm 127:3-5 and Proverbs 22:6 Father, we know that children are a gift from you. Happy is the family that has several children. Please Father, bless our families who love and serve you with children. Help them bring their children up to love and honor you! In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 6: 1-4 Father, help us as parents to teach our children obedience. Help us to teach them respect for us and for authority figures everywhere. Help us to realize that without learning this, they will struggle with obeying and respecting you. Help us to do all we can to do this in love without making them angry and resentful. Help us most of all to train and teach them about you! In Jesus name. Amen. Proverbs 13:24; 20:11 and 23:13 Father, we know that children are known by their behavior. Help my children’s actions show their innocence and goodness. When my children need correction though, help me to be strong enough emotionally to handle it in the right way. Help me to always convey love to them and to help them learn early in life that choices have consequences. Help them to someday understand that this discipline is because of a deep love I have for them and a desire for them to learn to make wise choices. Help me be the best parent I can be! In Jesus name. Amen.
Deuteronomy 6: 7-9 Father, help me to remember your commands. Help me to teach them to my children. Help me to talk about you when I’m sitting at home, when walking around the house or neighborhood, when we go to bed, when we first wake up. Help your words to be on my tongue and for my children to hear and see them all throughout the day. Help me, Father, not to just teach your words but for me to live them out in my example. In Jesus name. Amen.
